Backing Track Bed of Roses
John’s notes; This power / Rock Ballad was requested by a fellow member, and I think it makes a great lesson that uses most of the essential techniques a modern guitarists needs in their tool box i.e hammers, pull off’s, bends, slides etc. The original recording is 7 minutes long so I’ve reduced it to just over 4 minutes. My arrangement is largely improvising over the main melody, but keeping true to the original tune. This is important because an instrumental (any instrument, guitar, piano, brass etc) has not got the benefit of lyrics telling a story, so we have to try and ‘embellish’ the tune to make the melody interesting to listen to. This is the art of ‘improvisation’ and is great fun to do! The tune is in the original key of F Major, and most of the melody uses the 1st and 5th positions F Major scale. If you don’t know what that means just ask when you next have a ‘one to one’ with me. As you play keep locked to the timing especially at the beginning. There’s only 2 chords being played (F Major and Bb Major) and its easy to get lost! Its a nice tune to add to your list so give it a go…just ask for the TAB PDF.
Lead Solo
Rhythm Gtr
Rhythm Guitar supplies the background harmony whether on it’s own or with other instruments. Practice along with the Backing Track on the website first to get your chord changes and timing ‘spot on’ before playing along with the melody (either a singer or instrument). Don’t be fooled by the slow tempo ! It’s in 2/4 time until the Bridge then changes to 3/4 time and back to 2/4 time. Stay aware of the chord changes. NOTE: The rhythm guitar would not normally be played this loud. It would be mixed withinin the backing harmony. This video is for lesson purpose only.
TAB & ‘one to one’ tuition available to members.
